Comprehension
Most of the concerns of innovation revolve around understanding and comprehending the problem at hand. The third concern, which is the Comprehension, is nothing but arriving at design insights after studying all the aspects of the problem while analysing the first two C’s. Comprehension includes a thorough understanding of users and the problem space, insights into the challenges of materials and manufacturing, and mapping current technologies.
“The designer analyses all the information gathered and methodically lists out his observations and perceptions of the issues involved and the causes behind. The design insights thus arrived form the basis for the design intervention.”

By analysing the Cause and Context, we arrived at the following design insights:
SAREE:
1)A normal saree with pre-stitched pleats and pallu:
This type of design would reduce the amount of time and effort required in folding the pleats and pallu while wearing a saree. Here is a video where the woman makes a pre-stitched saree at home. https://youtu.be/xfWJMAasGPQ.
The problem that could arrive in this design would be the placing of the pleats. Depending upon the size of the waist, the position of the pleats might change and the person will have to adjust the saree multiple times to get the position right. This design will also require the person to wear a petticoat like with a regular saree.
2)A wrap-around saree with attached and pre-stitched pleats and pallu:
This type of design is available in the market for designer sarees, which are generally made with sturdy material. The idea is to make the bottom of the saree like a wrap-around skirt that has attached pre-stitched pleats and pallu. The use of hooks can be made to wrap the saree around the waist or a simple lace to tie it around. It will also use a lesser amount of fabric than a regular saree. This design also requires the person to wear a petticoat and is not fit for all. The design will have to be varied according to the waist size.
3)A saree in the form of a skirt with stitched pleats and pallu and elastic around the waist.
Again, the idea is to make the bottom part of the saree into a skirt with elastic around the waist, which would make it easier to wear and adjust. This design will also use a lesser amount of fabric. The saree is to be made into a skirt with an elastic waist and pre-stitched pleats and pallu. The petticoat can also be attached to the inside of the saree and thus the person would not require to wear another pair of clothing. This is also a very sturdy design and easier to wear. The elastic on the waist also makes it fit for all body dimensions.
BLOUSE:
Snap buttons or velcro strips can be added to the shoulder of the blouse and pallu for ease in attaching the pallu and not needing to use a safety pin. However, we have observed the current design for the blouse has ease of wearing & raises no safety concerns so we believe not changing it's design might be the better option.
